В началото на 90-те Arjen Anthony Lucassen - инструменталист, композитор, продуцент и вокалист, създава проекта Ayreon и поставя началото на нов стил в музиката - рок операта.
Албумът "01011001" е седми по ред в дискографията на Lucassen. Звученето му е мрачно и загадъчно, като засяга темите за засилващата се зависимост на хората от машините и намаляващата нужда от чувства.
В продължение на 102 минути Arjen Lucassen преплита прогресив спейс метъл, електроник, фолк и симфоничен рок.
